Nagarkot…a place where fog rolls in and blankets the landscape every morning, where unspoilt nature and majestic Himalayas make for a picturesque panorama, and a place where simplicity is the way of life : a simplicity that evokes a strong emotion of village life, its people and ambience of happiness, peace and contentment , beyond the realms of modern day life and the material world.

This tiny little mountain sits at an elevation of 2,195 meters and is located about an hour’s drive from Kathmandu airport. You drive past the mountains, thick forests of pine and rhododendron, and terraced agricultural land parcels to reach your destination atop the mountain.

Hike the mountain, walk up to the Lookout Tower early in the morning to catch the stunning panoramic view of Dhaulagiri, Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, stroll through the village to experience the village life, walk the narrow winding roads to village market square where locals sell organic produce from their farms or just sit and relax in a small local café in the market square to enjoy organic Himalayan tea and coffee, and catch the moments pass by blissfully.

I am glad that I included this place in my itinerary while in Kathmandu to get a glimpse of Nepalese village life and its culture with the majestic beauty of Himalayas in the backdrop.
